JDG has experts in journalism management and investigative reporting with experience from around the world. Currently, JDG is advising, training and working with local journalism organizations in a half dozen countries. JDG also does original policy studies on issues involving everything from organized crime, trafficking in human beings and investigative reporting to help make its programs more effective.
JDG has designed two projects which have been awarded funding by USAID and the US Department of State Middle East Partnership Initiative. They are:
Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project
JDG is providing management and editing for a unique regional program that focuses on improving reporting on organized crime and corruption. A consortium of investigative centers led by the Center for Investigative Reporting in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism are reporting on regional stories on crime and corruption. Their first effort on energy traders done in cooperation with SCOOP won the Global Shining Light Award for investigative reporting under duress given by the Global Investigative Journalism Network. The program is funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund.
Centar za istraživačko novinarstvo – Bosnia i Herzegovina (The Center for Investigative Reporting – Bosnia and Herzegovina). JDG and New York University combined forces to create CIN, a unique program that combines in-depth training of investigative editors and reporters with the development of an independent center for reporting. CIN has won international and local awards including the 2007 Online Journalism Award for best investigative reporting at a small news website and Transparency International's Integrity award. The center's work has led to real change in BiH while giving the people of NiH the information they need to make good decisions. JDG currently acts as editorial advisor to local management. The program was originally funded by USAID Bosnia-Herzegovina but is now funded by the Swedish Development Agency, British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and The Open Society - Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Middle East and North Africa Management Training Program - This unique program for the MENA region provides in-depth management training directly in newsrooms. Working as peers, experienced international editors help local editors solve problems ranging from quality and accuracy control to improving reader satisfaction to streamlining business operation. Funded for three years by the US Department of State MEPI program.
